Whoop and Fitbit have a lot of similarities in the way they work, but again they are from different brands so naturally there are differences as well. Several features such as display, battery life, approach to tracking, and so on, make these products differ.
Whoop & Fitbit Sense: Design
The Whoop tracker doesn’t include a screen but has a rather sleek and comfortable design. The Whoop 4.0 has a small tracking sensor so it doesn’t feel bulky on the wrist, but rather comfortable.
The material of the strap is also soft and smooth. When you need to take off your tracker it is easy to do as the clasp easily slides off. In this newest updated version of Whoop there is a waterproof battery pack.
This is truly amazing and important as you don’t have to worry about ruining your battery accidentally when washing your hands or doing the dishes with your fitness tracker still on your wrist.
The Fitbit sense looks great with its screen design with a square face and rounded edges. The stainless steel and aluminum case of the tracker is well-built and of good quality. On the side, there is a touch sensitive button which makes opening frequently used apps quick.
Unlike the Whoop tracker, the Fitbit sense includes a screen that is not too big but includes all the necessary information and provides good viewing angles. The colors are bright and sharp.
In settings, you have access to sleep mode, dimming, or increasing brightness based on your liking. The infinity strap that comes with it is also very nice and doesn’t buckle like a normal watch would as it is made of silicone.
It is soft and comfortable and doesn’t collect dust as quickly as others, but it still should be cleaned regularly especially if you use it every day. The strap comes smaller and bigger in size to be able to fit different wrist sizes.
Whoop & Fitbit Sense: Battery life
Both the Fitbit sense and Whoop have a battery life that lasts up to 6 days.
The difference is in the fact that the Whoop battery life isn’t disturbed by how much time you are in a high heart rate zone because it measures your heart rate at a rate of 100 per second no matter if you are inactive or running and doing workouts.
The battery life can hold you for up to at least 5 days. For charging, it works with battery packs that charge fully in about 2 hours with a USB-C charger.
On the other hand, the Fitbit sense’s battery life depends on how often it is used. Regular use of the sensors for heart rate data collection and always-on screen reduces the battery.
So, if you are sedentary and don’t use the Fitbit sense a lot your battery might last longer, but in another case, you will need to charge it more often. Thankfully, It comes with a USB charger which is easy and simple to use. It takes 1-2 hours to fully charge.
Whoop & Fitbit Sense: Features
Both Fitbit sense and Whoop have a sleep tracking feature which can be important for keeping a good sleeping schedule with quality sleep every night.
The Fitbit sense has sensors for electrodermal activity and skin temperature, but still, it is hard to tell the difference between REM and light sleep.
In this sense, the Whoop does a more precise job and this could be due to its sophisticated algorithm.
Both Fitbit Sense and Whoop use several sensors to keep track of biometric signals. They use a combination of a heart rate sensor and a 3D accelerometer and gyroscope to distinguish the type of activity you are doing.
Fitbit tracks metrics including steps taken, calories burned, stairs climbed, and/or distance walked, and compares your progress to your daily/weekly goals. It also has so-called Zone Mins which calculate the time spent in different heart rate zones.
The Fitbit sense has a great range of workout options which include bike, hikes, kickboxing, martial arts, pilates, running, swimming, tennis, treadmill, weights, and yoga. It is water resistant to 50m so it should be suitable for swimming. But keep in mind that you need the Premium version for certain features.
Whoop has a different approach and focuses on the scoring (cardiovascular) strain, which is calculated by tracking how much time you spend in an elevated heart rate zone.
Additionally, Whoop gives you recommendations about how much sleep and rest you need based on the strain you have accumulated during the day. Keep in mind that you need to pay a membership.
Whoop & Fitbit Sense: Performance
The Fitbit vibrates when you are moving between heart rate zones and the heart rate is always displayed on the screen which makes it really helpful for training and knowing if you are doing all right. It also features GPS so you can always map out your hikes, walks, or runs.
The GPS is not active at all times to preserve the battery but you can activate it in the correct workout mode. In general, it gathers the data accurately and quickly with very few mistakes.
The Whoop wearable tracks heart rate, sleep, and recovery accurately and provides the data on your app. It is very useful for those who need to keep track of their well-being and sleep patterns, as well as strain.
Although it has a good performance rate, keep in mind that small mistakes can happen at times.
What is the best fit for you?
Whoop would be great if you want to improve your overall health, keep the balance of rest and stress in your body.
Whoop will accurately track your activity and help you keep the balance. Fitbit sense would be great if you want a smartwatch and fitness tracker all in one.
It will provide all the necessary health and activity stats while you can also use it to send texts, make calls and receive notifications.
