So this was going to be about new types of sweat…. but instead we are going to talk about sweating over an oven. #Elf4Health meets #WIAW.
So I did a crazy amount of Tgiving food prep in a very little amount of time last night. And finally used two of our wedding presents! My Anthropology apron…
And Monsieur Henri….
After getting my food list in order, I went to Whole Foods, where I only expected to be able to get some of the things that I needed. Welllll…. I ended up getting lucky! Not only was the store relatively clear (boom for going at 2 on Tuesday), prices were relatively low, and I got just about everything I had on the list, and only needed to get 4 things at TJ’s on the way home. Only 1 more thing to get and then I should be set!
So I got started on my mini pecan pies (my mom and Alex’s FAVE tgiving dessert of all time is pecan pie. No lie the first or second year of dating my mom and Alex went to lunch on her bday and he got a BBQ pork sandwich and she got a slice of pecan pie. #beastmode)
I meant to add Crown Royal to make them Whiskey pecan pies, but forgot (Guess we’ll have to drink it). And the pies aren’t exactly the right consistency, but for a first attempt, I’m cool with it. I have half of the batter left, so I think I will make Pecan Pie bars, but undecided on the crust.
Next up was the Cranberry cupcakes, which I will fill with chai apple cider compote/chutney (I made sweeter and savorier versions so that I could figure out what worked better).
Then I made Alex’s dinner. My stomach hurt from eating on and off all day, and having nips of the batters and trying all sorts of things, and so I re-formulated our dinner plans and made Alex pasta. Then I realized that I hadn’t fixed my own dinner so I made a tilapia filet (mustard rubbed) over salad for me. I was pretty pumped with Alex’s dinner though:
We digested for a while and checked out the UVA game (we dominated WAHOOWAH) and then it was time for ice cream. No pics (we were in relaxing mode by then) but I had Whole Foods’ Pumpkin ice cream with extra pumpkin spice, sprinkles, and cocoa nibs. Second serving included Earth Balance Coconut and Peanut butter. Finished up with Ancient Grains toast, jam, pumpkin puree, and a little bit more Earth Balance.
Well I was going to do some #Elf4Health chat, but got distracted by food. Who woulda thought. More cooking to do today, I am super pumped about my Thanksgiving menu–Alex and I are hosting my mom and bro (who I haven’t seen since my wedding!). Pumped to use our fine china and crystal BWWAAALLLLLLIINNNNN.
So instead of an #Elf4Health post, here is my first #WIAW…. Best laid plans…. often end up lost in wilderness. Get a f*@&ing compass dude.
