Weekend Wins to Bring April to A Close (Chocolate, Running, Friends!)

Did you have any wins this weekend? From work to running to friends to food (ALL THE CHOCOLATE) to awareness, sharing some highlights of the past few days!

To keep you all updated on the blog situation, it is still a bit up in the air. There is apparently something within my website that is “broken” and causing more problems, but we aren’t sure what it is, and we are tying to figure it out. Please let me know if you are having problems so that we can troubleshoot them!

Five Weekend Wins!

1) Work Wins

I had a few great wins this weekend with regards to work things!

One of my running clients had her first longer run where she finished without pain and feeling like she could keep going! This is a HUGE win–she has had a myriad of ligament and other such issues as she has come back from a rather horrible stress fracture, so getting that message from her after her run on Saturday was such great news!

Gladys and I have been working so hard on some that really, really scares her: walking backwards over changes in elevation. This past week, we worked on her stepping backwards over an exercise step–the first time I told her to do it without holding my hand, there was real, visceral fear on her face, and she froze. But we worked through it, and soon she was going back over it like a champ!

At work, I had some seriously great tables. Someone even went up to the hostess stand on their way out and gushed about me! It was great to feel like I could relax about what I was doing, be effective, and really engage with people. THOSE are the reasons that I love serving!

2) Running Wins

I nailed my highest mileage goal this week. I will be pulling way back on running now, and so I decided to just go for it. I will admit, I’m a bit nervous to say how far I ran, because I know I will be judged for it. But I’m going to lay it out there, because I am truly proud of myself, my body, and how I am taking care of my body (and yes, for all of those that are out there thinking it, that means getting in an absurd amount of calories, made much easier by staff meal at the restaurant, lol!). I hit 60 miles on Friday.

That is only one day of double digit runs–I just ran consistently, some of the miles were broken up (like if I was running to downtown).

I finished April of last year in a similar fashion: not caring or keeping track of how many miles I had run but just running for the sake of running after not being able to do so. Find what you love, what makes you happy, respect your body, fuel it properly, and know when to pull back (ie now). 

3) Friend Wins

Brunch with girlfriends is always a win! On a cold and dreary day, Ellen and Alicia joined me up in my neck of the woods for brunch at Orange. We had planned a Sweat Pink Ambassador Sip N Sweat + National Infertility Awareness Week Walk of Hope event, but the weather scared everyone else away. I got my run on (in run/walk fashion) in my shakeout that morning with Team Challenge, so I got my sip on with Ellen and Alicia at Orange!

It was great to catch up with Alicia after her travels around the world, and you know that I just loathe spending time with Ellen ;D Plus, Alicia and I introduced her to Molly’s Cupcakes, so I consider that a win for a friend!

In work related friend news, I feel like I’m making some great friends at work!

4) Food Wins

Cookie dough filled chocolate and the most massive staff meal ever after my highest mileage week ever. One of my coworkers went to Dylan’s Candy Bar and brought us back some fun candy bars, and I went straight for the cookie dough filled ones 😀 SO GOOD. 

Chocolate crossaints. I went to my photography workshop on Sunday, and after helping myself to a lovely and healthy second breakfast of Greek yogurt, fruit, and Jessica’s Natural Granola (SO. GOOD)…. I said, “F it” and helped myself to chocolate crossaint. OMG it was so good. So unnecessary, and so good. I used to live off of them as a kid (and you know I got a hot chocolate with my crossaint).

Another round of banana muffins. I used a similar combination of ingredients as this recipe, but I added a vital ingredient: cornmeal. I could eat these all day (and don’t worry, I am!)

5) Awareness Wins

May is another big month in the infertility sector for me, so it was really empowering for me to finish out April with National Infertility Awareness Week. I have to give such major props to Liz Shaw for all that she does to help foster such a positive community at Bumps to Baby–I am honored to be a part of the community, and honored to be her friend.
