Emmie Friday Five Lyfe Parenting

Tremendous Spirits (40 weeks + Friday Catch Up 11/2)

Between Halloween and the passing of an amazing friend, this week was one for tremendous spirits. I’ll fill you in on the Friday Catch Up!

Did you catch the Weekend Catch Up? We had some seriously cute times this weekend!

Friday Catch Up 11/2

1). I found out on Sunday night that one of my former clients was had been in the hospital for the past month. It sounded that things weren’t going well, and I immediately made plans to visit her the next day. I am so thankful that I did, because it turns out that circumstances were far worse than I expected. She passed away on Wednesday night.

I actually wrote a post about her when I was personal training; she was just one of the sweetest, sharpest, outspoken, caring, and hilarious people. She made an indelible impact on my life as a grandmother figure in my life, and we kept in touch after I left the gym. I gave her back her confidence in her body, she provided me so much comfort and companionship. I was always happy to get up early for her, and I loved starting my day with our 30 minutes together.

She was a tremendous spirit, and I am so truly blessed to have had her in my life. And she was even still doing her exercises that I had given her the year before while she was in her hospital bed. #starstudent

2). I trained Gladys from the time that we pulled me off of birth control through the first trimester of my pregnancy, and it was another big week for Emmie. A year ago this week, I entered the third trimester, and this week, Emmie has been breathing oxygen for the same number of weeks she was a developing nugget (time in the lab and then in me).

Emmie is crawling all over, and now she is also REALLY into pushing up to a kneeling position. She also loves standing at the couch and playing with the remotes that we put up there to occupy her. We aren’t quite cruising yet, but she is getting stronger and more confident. She also really likes getting on her tippy toes while standing. Who knows why.

She also is obsessed with crawling up and over our laps/legs/us and then burrowing her head into us. She’s becoming an ostrich, basically.

I’ve really been working on introducing new foods to her this week: I’ve been making her mini pancakes (whole wheat dairy free for now, but I made some with Greek yogurt that I froze for later), butternut squash, chicken, adding cinnamon to her oatmeal, and more straw drinking.

We’ve been working on pushing buttons on her new activity cube, too.

We are reinstating her bedtime story, too. Scenes like this melt my heart!

3) We went to some great classes this week!

Baby and Me Yoga at Prenatal Fit: I wish we had gone when she was younger, because now that she can crawl she was off to the races and taking other kids’ toys and getting into trouble lol. She really liked whatever that baby in the mirror was up to, though.

Halloween Stroller Strides party and craft: We wore our gold sneakers so that we could be a Stroller Strides Unicorn! And then Holly prepped and carried out a great spider Halloween craft. It has only been a month since the autumn leaf craft, which she screamed about, and this time, she was all about it!

Boogyin Babies: We loved this class last time, and again, even though it has only been a few weeks, Emmie made huge strides, was much more interactive, and really took to the instruments! Plus, it was yet another opportunity to wear the unicorn outfit.

4) Alex and I got a second opportunity to wear our unicorn outfits as well Wednesday night when a group of our friends got together for some Halloween fun. We didn’t stay out long, but it was still nice to see friends without a baby along for the ride!

5) This weekend, even though Alex is finally off of the super busy and time consuming rotation, Alex has to work on a paper, but we are going to try to see some friends for margaritas and then some brunch.

Can you believe it is November?! It is one of my favorite months, with Thanksgiving, Starbucks holiday cups, flannel, squash and pumpkin and apples and cider, fires in fireplaces, and cozy sweaters. I’m so excited to experience this month with Emmie and Alex and our friends!

Have a great weekend! Good luck to friends running the NYC marathon!

Are you excited about November? Or would you skip to December if you could?

Flannel or wool?  Apple cider or hot chocolate?

I have a lot to say today:
You really loved that lady. That’s one of the many things I love about you — you love everyone…hard. With your whole heart. She knew and loved that about you, too.

“She also really likes getting on her tippy toes while standing. Who knows why.”
To make herself bigger. To see if she can do it. To see what she can see while doing it. It’s amusing AF when you can do something that you’ve never been able to do.:)

IN LOVE with her Halloween costume! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I heart all of Autumn, so I embrace November like a warm blanket. Can I have both flannel and wool, and both apple cider and hot chocolate? I’m an equal opportunity Autumn-er.

Oh Suz I’m so sorry to hear about Gladys. It sounds like she was an incredible person, and you two were lucky to know each other.
Personally, I’m all about November, as long as it actually feels like fall! The weather has been all over the place here – dropping down to the 30s, but today it’s in the mid-60s… *eye roll* Personally, I love cider AND hot chocolate! Couldn’t pick a favorite, it really depends on my mood.

I just reread your post about Gladys. Her strength was in her spirit, not in her muscles, in her attitude toward life, not in pessimism with aging. She was that rare iron rod in the velvet glove.

What an amazing gift she gave to you, thank you for sharing her spirit with us. Her body may have finally given out, but her spirit never will leave those whose lives she touched.
