Curious as to why I am so dedicated to running while pregnant?

It may not seem that my pregnant running essentials are that different from a normal running wardrobe, I promise you that each piece has a particular rhyme and reason and use. Comfort and support are paramount, but you also want to look cute! Pregnant runners, pay attention! Here are my second trimester pregnant running essentials!

Second Trimester Pregnant Running Essentials

Some of these product Is I was given for purposes of review. No compensation was involved and as always, all opinions are my own.

We’ll start at the top and work our way down.

Pregnancy hormones do weird things to your skin; I have had a recurrence of body acne and facial zits that is very rare for me. Also, my moles have changed–some of them have grown (I am going to the dermatologist later this month for a full skin check). As a result, I am more conscious than ever of protecting my skin when I am out in the sun. That means hat is on just about every run!

Sunscreen is also non-negotiable. When I ran the Empowered Race with Sweat Pink, I was introduced to a line of face and skin products called Fre, and I have been LOVING it since. It is specially formulated for women who workout! Gotta love that, right?! I love the Revitalizing Serum at night and the Protect Me sunscreen during the day. It never falls into my eyes, and my skins feels SO GOOD. Must be the Argan Oil, which you know from the past I looooove.

I was provided with a sample but I have no relationship with the company!

Because it be bright out. Dur.

Jaybird X3 Wireless Sport Headphones

Last year I discovered the freedom of the Bluetooth sport headphone, and until my phone starting having massive battery problems, I have never looked back. Now that my phone is fixed, I can be back in my happy place! Let’s be honest, I am running at a much slower pace than I have previously, and so I need my podcasts and music to keep me company, plus I need wireless headphones that won’t die or suck the life from my battery. These have amazing sound quality, are sweatproof, and last for ages. I’m pretty obsessed.

Oh, and I’m giving away a pair… but you are going to have to wait a few days!!!

Handful Bra

This is one of the newest developments for me. I have had a few Handful Bras that I have enjoyed using over the past few years. They are so comfortable, after all! Great support, the whole nine. BUT.

Now, I ONLY run in my Handful Bras. Period. End of Story. Seriously. I did laundry yesterday, and they were the only bras washed and hung to dry (aka my sports stuff). I attempted to get a bust shot yesterday during my run, but the girls are larger and my arms are short, so it was just basically BOOBS.

Why? Because they are the most comfortable, most supportive bra that I have in my arsenal and the only bra that has grown with me. The fabric is so soft, and the elastic within the bra fabric and the banding moves with me, rather than constricting me, like some of my other similarly styled sports bras. I also love that you can just pull it on, rather than have to deal with hook and eye closures as well as criss-crossing straps. Because I have one of those. Yeesh.

I know that there is a bunch of “controversy” on the removable pads for bras issues, but this second trimester pregnant runner will tell you that having those pads in there is actually a godsend. Let’s just say I am NEVER running low beams, and those beams aka my nipples are hella sensitive. Also, the Handful Bra pads have some contouring in them, which provides some additional support.

I have been wearing the classic Adjustable Bra, but recently tried the Y back and loved that one as well–more support for bigger ta-tas.

Want the chance to try out this incredible bra for yourself? Enter the giveaway below!

Spyder Aura Tank Top

This takes the popular t-strap back tank top and elevates it. The strap down the back is elasticized, the coverage is full on the front, and the back is mesh and dips down low for full coverage back there. I have had some tank tops that dip super low at the shoulder blades, but these have a bit more coverage as well. If you like a top with movement and ventilation, but don’t want to just be wearing a sash, this is the top for you!

Oiselle Roga Shorts

I have 3-4 pairs of shorts that currently fit me and my burgeoning bump without making me feel like a sausage, and the Oiselle Roga shorts comprise 2 of them. (the others are old models out of production from other brands). What I love about the Roga shorts is that the waist band is wide and accommodating, and also that it is not tighter than the leg fabric. AKA you don’t look like you have a rubber band wrapped tightly around your middle and then the rest of you oozing out. Also, pockets for things. I am wearing the 3″ Roga for coverage, but they don’t ride up at the thighs, which is becoming more and more of an issue for me.

Feetures Socks

I’ve written about my love for a dedicated running sock before, but now I am only wearing my Feetures socks when I go out, unless I decide that there is need for full compression socks on. The Feetures socks have some compression in them, plus the fabric is just so great. Find out more about why I love them here! Also, as my feet start the runs quite swollen and then shrink in size, I need a sock that will expand and contract with them without giving me rubs.

Compression Socks (Sometimes)

My biggest second trimester issue has been swelling in my legs and feet. As a result, compression is so necessary for me, particularly after my runs and while I am at work!

Mizuno Wave Sky

My second biggest second trimester issue is that my. feet. hurt. Imagine the longest day you have spent on your feet, and how much they ached afterwards. That is what I wake up to. The Mizuno Wave Sky and my Crocs are the only shoes that 100% take the pain away. I’m running a bit more heavily, as well, and the cushion and shock absorption they provide, as well as the room in the foot, are just essential for me! Check out my (non pregnant) review of them here!

Of course, the temps are starting to decrease with fall around the corner, and layering will get trickier as the bump expands. But we will cross that bridge when we get to it! I have a feeling that you will be seeing a lot of my crop Spyder long sleeve and Pearl Izumi running shrug.

I have two handfull bras I use for low-impact workouts. For running I look for support and ease of use – I’d rather deal with a hook in the back than have to wrestle a sweaty mess of straps over my head!

Let me just say I’m totally jealous not being pregnant in this day and age. The clothing is SOOOO much nicer and flattering than “back in the day.” The more fitted-type of maternity wear was just entering the scene right after my youngest was born (almost 18 years ago…YIKES!). And compression socks? Thankfully, I didn’t have much of a need (until the final month or so)…but all that was available were the ugly “old lady” thick white socks.

I saw that bold face Susan’s a Handful and just stopped….then giggled……and smiled!

Your Grandpa named a very nice little thoroughbred filly, who was born two months before you, for YOU!
Little did any of us know how totally appropriate that would turn out to be!
Her registered name was Susansahandful…….all one word.

We never saw her race, but she did quite well at the track. Later on, she became a broodmare………hmmmmm……..history repeating itself?.
Susan’s racing career ended before she became a broodmare, and we lost track of her. I don’t see your racing career giving way like that to your becoming a broodmare, you will continue to run long after giving birth(s). There’s a babyjogger out there that just has your name all over it!!

I like my Handful bra but not as much as I thought I would. When I was pregnant my boobs were so huge and so sore the ONLY bra I could wear was the Juno. It kept the girls locked down. I am a handful because I can be really persistent. I’ve heard of the handful bras, but I don’t know if they’re for me… do they offer a lot of support? Because I have a small frame, but need bigger cups and so support is always an issue.
