Ridley’s First Gotcha Day! (Weekend Recap)

Today’s is Ridley’s first Gotcha Day! Looking back at the weekend after our big ultrasound and gender reveal and celebrating our favorite puppster!

Because there is so much going on today, I am holding off on the gender reveal until tomorrow! But all will be revealed tomorrow morning!

First of all, I hope that all in the paths of these crazy storms and natural disasters (because there seem to be an inordinate amount of them at the moment) are well and safe. Please don’t be a hero and try to stay in places that are not safe!

Second of all, I want to take a moment to pause to remember the events of September 11, 2001, and the lives that were lost.

Ridley’s First Gotcha Day!

One year ago, we came home with this little bundle of crazy

She is a handful (like her mama) but she has been one of the best things that has happened to us. Zoe gave us the companionship we so dearly needed , but Ridley is helping prepare us to be parents. She is the “wurst” but we wouldn’t have her any other way.

She challenges us, exasperates us, delights us, and we both just love her so much. (ps, right now she and Alex are both passed out…

I melt.  Happy Gotcha Day, Riddles! You are crazy but you are ours!

Weekend Recap

We had our big 20 week anatomy scans and ultrasound and then Alex headed back to work and I headed home to deal with the dog as we called our parents and siblings. We knew we wanted to go out for dinner to celebrate (also because we had no food in our fridge), so we made plans to go to Basil Leaf, our favorite Italian/Mediterranean restaurant (where we take just about every family member that visits!).

We both considered getting different dishes but then got our usuals (plus the unpictured hot and fresh rolls and herby garlic olive oil).

My Romaine and Avocado salad + Grilled Shrimp (yes, that is half an avocado, and they somehow get the BEST ripest avocado every time)

Alex’s Rotini and Bolognese (you better believe that I help him with that amazing sauce)

We left totally stuffed, completely happy, and with a new lens on the world! Then we decided to watch a movie… and settled on latest season of Sherlock. It was a perfect evening together after a super exciting day!

I worked. It was my rest day as well. Not much to say. OH except our Culinary Manager made us fried pickles, which is every pregnant ladies DREAM. I had a few too many of those. I paid for it. But they were so freaking good.

I also got bitten by the baby shoes bug. I can’t wait to show you what I got for our kiddo… you. will. die.

I’m also now stalking Zulily for their baby deals. Want to join? Let me know, and I’ll send you an invite so we can both get credit towards stuff!

I ended up getting home pretty early because I got cut and jetted out of there! (Early means I was home around 11).

I was tired when I woke up Saturday morning. Just no way around it. My body knew that it was the weekend, and after waking up and eating and having my (decaf) coffee, I settled in for a nap and let Alex take the dog out once he woke up.

I felt totally out of it until we went for our run, actually. For the first 1/4 mile, I was MISERABLE. Everything hurt. Nothing moved. Probably didn’t help that I had been asleep/lounging and hadn’t walked the dog or stretched, but shut your mouth and let me do my thing.

Still current mood

By about 1/2 mile in, things started loosening up. 5.5 miles later (for a total of 6 miles), Alex and I had enjoyed a fantastic run in gorgeous weather (and two bathroom stops thanks to Yoshi lounging on my bladder like a chaise). Alex added on another mile at a quicker speed, but I went upstairs and had a bagel and yogurt (I didn’t want to press my luck). THIS IS WHY I AM STILL RUNNING WHILE PREGNANT

We did our own things for lunch (Alex had to go downtown) and I may have taken another nap 😀 Then Alex watched football and I took the crazy one (the dog) to the park to run like a maniac.

When I got home, I was ravenous. It was 4. Mama needed a snack, and we didn’t have anything. So I made Alex leave and we went to Gaslight, where we got the hummus and guac platter and then food a little while after.

Gaslight Bar and Grille in Lincoln Park is a fantastic Four Corners Tavern with AMAZING Guacamole and Hummus! One of the best healthy appetizers in Chicago!

We watched the rest of the season of Sherlock.. which was weir. My thoughts: good character development, plots were too fantastical and they need to dial it back to what makes the show work.

REST DAY x10000. I took the dog to the park, I wore awesome leggings (the Handful ones that I am giving away!!).

I napped, we did a massive grocery haul, I napped, I went for a walk, got a few other groceries for Alex, then I made a dinner of chicken pesto pasta for Alex and chicken mustard zoodles for me. And we just hung out the rest of the night and (literally) ate dark chocolate pb cups.

I had planned on doing the gender reveal today, but I want to make sure my children both get their moment in the limelight. I’m sure you understand!

Today I have work, and it is work work work for the next 2 weeks straight for both Alex and I. Woot.

Have you entered to win Suz's fave @handfulbra bra + leggings or her @jaybirdsport X3 earbuds? #runchat Click To Tweet

Come back tomorrow to find out what gender Yoshi is!!

How was your weekend?

Milk chocolate or dark chocolate peanut butter cups?

It’s been one year? Lucky Ridley!

I want to know how restaurants always seem to have the good avocados. And if they get a brown one, do they just toss it?

Wow, I can’t believe it has been a year since you got Ridley! In my mind, she is still like 4 months old. Crazy! Can’t wait to find out if Yoshi is a boy or a girl!

The suspense is KILLING ME! But I guess I can live until tomorrow 🙂 And dark chocolate PB cups are where it’s AT. I used to work at a chocolate company that only make milk chocolate PB cups, so I used to slice off the milk chocolate and sandwich the PB filling between two squares of dark chocolate like a freaking chocolate MacGuyver 😉

Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend! We had a kid free weekend and it was fantastic. We went out to dinner Friday night, had some wine, did a 13k trail run together (amazing) and just relaxed. Oh, I’m going say it’s a girl… a boy…nope, girl. But in all honesty, great to hear your appointments have gone so well.

The weekend was AMAZING and SOOO refreshing.

I know what you mean by having dogs. They do exasperate me and teach me so much about patience, care, compassion, and responsibility. I’m thankful Ridley prepared you for Yoshi. 🙂

And I think I like dark chocolate PB cups, but I usually just eat Reese’s.

Excited about tomorrow’s gender reveal! I can’t wait to meet this little one God is forming inside of you!

CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE GENDER REVEAL! Aren’t you gonna take guesses???? Oh, well since you asked I guess BOY!

Yay for Ridley. Life is just 100x better with a dog in it in my opinion. I don’t know what I would do without my two fur babies!

Looks like a nice weekend, Susie! I mean, tell us whether it’s a boy or girl already … hahahah! And as far as baby shoes, I have SO many. I haven’t bought anything on Zulily, but they have some great baby deals. Oh and also, having a dog is SUCH good training for kids I think — so much responsibility hehehe. Happy Monday, friend! 🙂

I want to try all of that food. And fried pickles omnomnom.

The last season of Sherlock was so weird. I think it suffered from too much Moffat. He used to write for Doctor Who (I don’t know if you watch?) and some of his individual episodes were amazing, but when he was in charge of entire seasons things just got too weird and twisty.
