Crohn's Lyfe Thinking Out Loud

Now That The Olympics Are Over

Now that the Olympics are over, I have nothing to live for I need to fill hours in new ways and look forward to new things. Or return to old things. So just what is keeping me going?

Thank you Amanda for the time to Think Out Loud!

Zoe helping me with my Coach Suz Training Running plans by showing the importance of rest and recovery! @suzlyfe

Happy Adoption Day, Zoe! You are my kitty kat attack and Alex and I love you very much, even if you aren’t very smart.

Now that the Olympics are Over

I’m thinking about some of those weirder workouts that I mentioned (and that I’ve participated in!) on Tuesday. Thank you all for saying that my favorite sorts are not weird btw. Now, can we convince the rest of the world of that?

I'm the boss meme

I’m also thinking about making myself more accountable for my own fitness pursuits. I am a huge proponent of injury prevention (especially core and glute exercises!) obviously, and during my own marathon training, I’ve always been very good about getting my own PT, yoga, strengthening etc done. The problem right now? I’m a) still scared of pissing off my body and b) I’m doing just enough and just well enough to be doing fine. Because I’m doing “fine,” I’m not holding myself accountable for doing my PT, for really getting after my strength training.

I mean, if I could do strength training with a broken back...

I mean, if I could do strength training with a broken back…

Well, now that the Olympics are over, I have reminded of how much I’ve let myself slip. Those fitness goals? HA forget the strength based ones! Fortunately, two circumstances have arisen to help get me back on track. The first is a studio review that I am doing for a newer fitness studio that has opened near my apartment (follow me on IG stories for hints!). I’ve gone 3 times and it is kicking. my. ass. Both humbling and also stimulating and I’m thinking about continuing on with them even after my starter pack ends! A full review will be coming!

Secondly, I’m going to be running the Magnificent Mile Half Marathon in two weekends! I also have an entry to give away, so stay tuned for that soon. I know I won’t PR this half, but I just want a strong race (and minimal bathroom breaks).

I also am going to be running the RUN10 FEED10 next Thursday (Sept 8)–come and join me and help feed the hungry by running 10k. Use my code WHPR5OFF for $5 off, and WHVESEY will also help out my girl Amber (so give us both some love, yo! And her code is good for anyone to use for any of the RUN10 FEED10 races!

Oh, you know, NBD Lauren Fleishman and me.

Oh, you know, NBD Lauren Fleishman and me.

I’m focusing on getting well. Unfortunately, the biopsies from my doctors appointment last week confirmed that my Crohn’s Disease is indeed active again aka I’m out of remission, likely as a result of taking me off the Methotrexate and the huge stressors in my life from this spring. Currently, I’m streamlining certain aspects of my life to give myself the best chance for recovery. And that includes putting the family making on hold until we know I am (physically) stable.

While we are waiting to get back to the fertility pursuits, I’m getting serious about adding a fur baby. I even took a breed selector quiz yesterday, and we got Corgi as a 96% match! And then I saw this on IG yesterday, and it has been sustaining me since.

Corgis are so cute!

Now that the Olympics are over, I’m realizing it is basically September, and HOLY CRAP. A) This summer has been crazy B) all of that stuff I wanted to get accomplished? HA C) Alex -> interviews and D) fall is around the corner. I am a big supporter of slowing the f down and not rushing the seasons, but I will admit that I did buy Pumpkin Spice Cheerios on Monday. I have no shame as the reviews have said that they are good year round.  But fall will bring winter, and winter wasn’t bad last year, but the 2 winters before were polar vortexes (vertices?) and I know that I can’t get excited about that!

fear-the-pumpkin_o_790988

I’m also hoping that I’ll have more time to work on my book. I’ve been a bit uneven about working on it, even though I’m thinking about it constantly!

And with September comes the inevitable decision time that I know is coming and that I’m pretty well and prepared for and ready for, but still: Boston Marathon Registration. I have a feeling that I am going to feel about it somewhat like I did during the race itself: excited for all my friends and checking in and congratulating people while being accepting of what has happened, but, at the same time, it’s going to be a long few weeks. I honestly hadn’t realized that Boston registration was coming until I realized that the Olympics were over and September was coming.

To end on a lighter note, now that the Olympics are over, I (and Alex) are able to watch other TV nonsense again. That means that the Real Housewives of Various Cities are going to have new episodes again, and Alex and I can take back up watching The Last Kingdom, which is like the Tudors meets Game of Thrones (it’s on Netflix).

So tell me, what are you doing now that the Olympics are over?

What are you watching now that the Olympics are over?

Ummm that corgi pic put the biggest smile on my face. I freaking love dogs.
I’m sorry Crohn’s is rearing its ugly head again. Streamlining/destressing sounds like a good idea. ❤️ You know what you need.
Still watching The Americans and loving it. My dad and I started Stranger Things and 2 episodes in feel like we could stop and not care at all…but everyone loves it, so we’re torn.

I’m not interested in Stranger Things. I’m not going to waste my time with it, I don’t think. And I’m sorry that your E-D is currently making things difficult for you. We are quite the pair, huh?

So devastated the olympics are over. The only good thing is that Dan HATES them for some reason so we got into a few arguments when I wanted to watch them all day on the weekends (legit didn’t come out of our basement where the TV is)and he kind of wanted to hang out. So clingy 😉

Yes, where did summer go? Not that I am missing out on the heat, just the time. I was all “I have all these weeks to train for fall races and pull life together because it’s not flu season” and now that is basically over. Ack. And the Olympics are over so I nothing to procrastinate with.
Sorry you are out of remission. Sending you positive vibes and a virtual hug. Yes to another fur baby!

I keep having realizations that fall is around the corner. It’s nice but I always mourn the end of summer. I love everything about summer and I hate winter. So it is hard to come to terms with it. I’m sure the Boston one is a tough one but after not being able to go for several years due to conflicts and other things, I finally have a guaranteed spot and I sometimes wonder if I should go this year. It’s hard to figure out if it is selfish to do or not. But I also know that there will be other Boston’s in the future too.

It still feels like summer in Dallas! Schools and universities are underway now, and it feels just like yesterday kids were getting out for the summer. I didn’t have a true vacation this year, and yet I look back on this summer and it has flown by. Maybe I was so focused on the Olympics and now that they’re over, crap! it’s almost fall!

Ugh I feel so hopeless without the Olympics. So sad. Thankfully I’m a pretty well rounded sports fan so I still have baseball and football will be starting soon but still – there is something so special about cheering for the USA instead of for a specific team or person! And corgi’s literally have the cutest dog butts out there, so I vote yes 😉

OMG so much I agree with in this post! I miss the olympics and it also made me realize that I need to get my shit together and get back on track with PT. It’s fallen totally off track this summer between buying/decorating a house, getting a puppy, and hiking. My goal is to get back into my PT work again and then try careful running again in a few months. Also, you need a puppy! Mine is insane and a ton of work but he’s the best!
