Emmie Friday Five Lyfe Parenting

Goofy Juice (22 Weeks + Friday Catch Up 6/29)

I feel like this week has FLOWN by–anyone else?

Did you see the recap of our girls’ weekend?

Friday Catch Up 6/29

1) I think my child has taken some goofy juice–she has been cracking herself up this week. Mostly with her feet and by showing off her new trick–blowing raspberries!

She basically blew raspberries for 48 hours straight. It was hilarious and I couldn’t stop laughing at her, which made her laugh more! It was beyond adorable.

I had to take her in to the doctor on Tuesday to check out a lump under her left nipple–it turned out to be a breast bud (which we suspected, but everyone wanted to check and make sure). Breast buds are very common in babies under the age of two — even in boys — and the main thing you have to keep an eye on are a) inflammation at the site + fevers or feverish behavior, which can indicate mastitis (Suzy…), b) enlargement of the bud, which can indicate early puberty (even in 3 year olds!). It can take up to 18 – 2 years of age before they go away, so we just need to check it periodically.

While we were at the doctor, she got her weight checked, and it was 15’1″! So the peanut is indeed growing, even with her fussiness eating over the past month. That said, she hadn’t pooped in 36 hours when they weighed her, and taking into account the diaper she filled after we got back home… I would say that we are a little under 15 lbs, lol.

Everything else looked great, and she was having fun blowing raspberries at our amazing doctor. πŸ˜€

She’s back to forgetting how to roll over, lol. We are doing well with Tummy Time (she can do it for longer and longer), and I’m trying to work on her comfort being on her side right now in lieu of roll over work. We had to spend so much time on her back during the height of her reflux that I feel we are a little behind with her comfort in other positions. She is improving, though!

Christopher Lloyd called. He wants his hair back.

She loves her bounce around–she is even standing a little bit in it rather than just resting her feet on the floor. But more importantly, she is starting to turn herself around in order to play with things and look at other things.

We are having some issues with her sleeping through the night, though–we are back up to a solid 2 times a night waking, and I tried to have Alex get her back to sleep, but she refused, lol.

Thursday, I used Pearachute Kids (like ClassPass for families) to go to a Core Development for Pre-Crawlers at Bubbles Academy. It was so good, and Kim (the instructor) taught us some great tricks for really helping our kiddos get stronger!

2) Alex finally gets a 48 hour break starting tonight. Alex was able to get home early on Monday evening (after working 115 hours in 7 days and seeing Emmie for a total of 20 minutes over the entire week) just in time to see Mom before she left and to play with Emmie for the first time since his vacation. He was able to see her Wednesday as well (and we got to have dinner as a family outside!) and help put her to bed both Monday and Wednesday (he was on call Tuesday so he went and did a double workout at the gym in order to come home the other nights).

We knew these six weeks following vacation would be tough, and he’s been such a trooper. He’s exhausted, but still giving the best patient care possible. I try to help by making him healthy lunches that he can look forward to and depend on, taking care of Em and keeping him updated with pictures and fun things during the day, letting him go to the gym for some much needed self care, and then not UNLOADING on him when he comes home (although of course I do, lol). Things will be lightening up in August and then he will be released in a big way when the new fellows start taking call in September, so we just have to hold on until then!

Oh, and Wednesday was the 5 year anniversary of his first day as a resident and his first day in the long white coat!

3) OH RIDLEY.

Ridley Ridley Ridley. Bless her heart/I love her but… my dog is such a putz.

Her foot is healing well and doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore. But of course now she is in the doghouse because she is barking at everything. And then there was Wednesday morning…

when the idiot dog, trying to get my attention, fell off of the ottoman, hit the floor, and rolled over onto the baby and scratched Emmie’s face with her nails. Cue meltdown. I didn’t even know that Em had gotten scratched until a few moments later when I saw her face. Ridley’s nails had gotten dangerously close to Emmie’s eye, but lucky her nails didn’t break the skin, and she missed Em’s eye. But that was an OMG moment when I realized that.

Oh, Ridley. What are we going to do with you?? #darndog

4) Fitness wise, I’ve been keeping up with myself. I had to split my Wednesday run in two –treadmill and stroller–because Em woke up after I had done 2 miles and was not having quiet time, lol. So I came down and fed her and then finished up my run before Stroller Strides. It was a great class, and I could feel my bum and arms get sore and fatigued again after they’d recovered from this weekend’s classes!

Even Emmie was getting into it! Running + @fit_4_mom Stroller Strides yesterday = recovery day for me today. Especially after someone wouldn’t go back to sleep this AM (this was not me). I can really feel some of the work we did! I refueled after class with a new protein source that I’ve been introduced to–check out my stories for more info (soy/dairy/gluten free!). . . The social aspect of @fit4momchicago means time is not only enjoyable but flies by. We talk about mom stuff, Chicago stuff, whatever. Grateful to be a part of a group that gets what I am going through and is also like minded and wants to stay active. So happy I found this community! #strollergang #fit4mom #strollerstrides #postpartumfitness #momlife

Today’s “plan” is to do my run before it gets too hot and then to torture Em with some of the things that we learned in the core class!

5) Alex is off this weekend! We are planning margaritas at Tarascas, but nothing fun for me (they use soybean oil for their chips). So basically hand me a spoon and get your own salsa and guac, thanks. This weekend, I’m going to rooftop yoga at London House with my mommy friend and former cocoach Sam with A Sweat Life, and then Alex and I will try for our family run on Sunday! Sunday afternoon will be dinner with friends before Alex goes on call. But really, the aim of the weekend is to spend quality family time together.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Any “my pets are trying to accidentally kill my children (or me)” stories?

Would you rather… stroller run in high winds or treadmill run without a/c?

    hhhmmm …….well, lets see
–there was the time when your mighty steed, Regal, slipped in the mud and fell with you on him and the stirrup iron broke your foot
–and the time Peach (our black lab) tried to attack the cat at the trash dump (long ago lake days) and you and Chris were between Peachie and said cat. She tried to jump through the open window and scratched all of us. I think that was her last attempt to even look at a cat.
–big dogs can make big misses but smaller dogs, like Ridley, can make big messes, too!!

Alex is a TROOPER!! Just 1 more crazy month before August when it slows down.

This weekend I’m headed to Chicago! We’re heading to Hopsmith for drinks with my friends. Have you ever been?!

I’m much more of a baby person now. Having a cutie helps with that!

Oh dear, dog claws + baby’s face is not a good recipe. Our friend’s cockapoo recently jumped up and raked their 11 month old right across the face and chest too. Thankfully it was a similar situation, ie no broken skin, but it was stills scary–I saw it happen and could do nothing! Glad to hear you’re going to get some family time this weekend. Enjoy!

Your last question is a tough one! I think I would try the treadmill with no AC but not sure how long that would last for. Hope you guys have some good family time this weekend!

Aww, poor Emmie and poor Ridley! Stuff happens–its so good nothing bad happened.

Congrats to Alex! That training is rough. Hopefully this year will be much easier.

You’ve got yourself one hard working man! Glad he had some time off this weekend to spend with you. As for Ridley and Emmie, I’m sure the pup would never want anything bad to happen to your sweet thing. Accidents happen. My dog Jax literally PUMMELS my nephew whenever he is here, but its literally just because she wants to be NEAR him. She walks next to him at all times – I can’t tell you how many times her tail has smacked him in the face/eye. Poor kid lol

So, I just read up on breast buds in babies and WOAH, mind blown! I never knew such a thing existed – let alone newborn baby girls sometimes having mini periods as a result of those hormones?! Insane. You learn something new every day!

Not pets, but when I was a newborn my Mum took me out to a park with a friend for a picnic when a football came flying out of nowhere. Luckily she had carpal tunnel from all those crazy pregnancy/post natal hormones and was wearing a giant brace so she defended me like iron man Everytime she sees a football she remembers the moment she thought her precious little first born was almost pummeled i guess that’s why I never liked sport?

There are so many crazy things that happen to babies just naturally. And i know, the newborn period things are CRAZY. CAN YOU IMAGINE?
I can totally see your mom being like WHABAM to that ball. I have terrible reflexes but god help anything threatening my child.

For about 5 months we had a golden retriever named Sunny. she was about 5 months old when we got her. As she was an excellent retriever, she kept bringing me things……. like your brother, who was 4 at the time.

She’d go into his room, to the side of his bed, and pull him out by the pj’s and bring him to me……..
We ultimately gave her back to the breeder, not because she did anything wrong, but because she scared Chris to death with her retrieving of him.
She must have seen Chris as “my puppy,” and she was returning “the puppy” to his mom!
