Building Your Fitness Support System (ACTIVEx Review)

Building your fitness support system is such an important part of maintaining a healthy, active, and fit lifestyle as well as pursuing your fitness goals. But what if you have to train on your own? Find out how on this weeks Running Coaches’ Corner.

The Power and Importance of A Fitness Support System

This post was sponsored by ACTIVEx, who gave me a gratis membership to review. ALL opinions are my own!

Strength in numbers, the power of the shout out, health and fitness tribes, we all know how beneficial it can be to feel that you have support, encouragement, and people who have expertise to help you along the way. But sometimes, it just isn’t possible to meet up with groups, your friends, or get in for a fitness class at a particular time. ACTIVEx aims to solve that problem by connecting you to the larger health and fitness community with the power of social media and your phone!

Need help building your fitness support system and getting motivated? ACTIVEx is the latest and best app to create a fitness social media support system that will power you through your workouts. Get expert tips and fist bumps from around the world! Check out the review at http://suzlyfe.com/fitness-support-system-activex-running-coaches-corner-24.

Instagram, Twitter, Facebook (groups and personal pages), running sites, and blogs-1-there are so many ways to get involved with the larger fitness community. But the problem is, where do you start when you are trying to build your fitness support system from scratch? Sure, I have plenty of people now (and you are some of them! So thank you!) who I can post about having a good or bad run and they will commiserate or virtual high five me, but when I was first starting out, I had no clue. I felt pretty alone at the beginning! The blog and my blogging networks has put me in touch with so many great friends, but blogging isn’t for everyone.

ACTIVEx Builds Your Fitness Support System

ACTIVEx is just that: a network and community of active individuals looking to do just that: get active in their fitness and active in the fitness community. Produced by The Active Network and Active.com (which so many of us know from races and workouts and more), ACTIVEx is an app that provides training plans, workouts, even group exercise classes that can be done virtually–and all the while, you can connect with others doing the same workouts (or not) and give each other shout outs and encouragement!

Sounds to me like the experience of being in a race and finding people to talk to along the way, seeing funny signs, anything to keep you going. But unlike a race, ACTIVEx can be accessed at any time. Also, you know how you are still wondering how that person is doing, all this time later?

Well, with ACTIVEx, you can create or join “packs” aka your own fitness tribe! You can have different packs as well–like your real life girlfriends (maybe you live across the country from each other), people who do strength training for running, people who like Tabata, etc. You can follow along with each other and hold each other accountable. Set goals for each other, and celebrate when you hit them!

ACTIVEx is A Training Tool

Beyond acting as a meeting place for you and your fitness tribe, ACTIVEx is also a training tool with the support of the fitness experts at Active.com. The training plans are designed by Active.com and ACTIVEx coaches, and there are 5k and 10k programs in the app. For many new runners, the information, guidance, and support provided by ACTIVEx could be HUGE for their training. I wish everyone could have a running coach, but this is a great alternative!

Something that I, as a personal trainer, was super happy to see is in-app coaching and guided exercises that enable you to complete each move and exercise effectively and safely. So many apps just assume that you know that you are doing, but that leads to many injuries and a lot of frustration as you keep falling short of your goals or stop seeing results. I know I’ve hit plateaus before with my training, but it turns out that I wasn’t doing the exercise properly–a few changes got me much better results.

Keeping Yourself Accountable with ACTIVEx

Oh, accountability. I think that one of the biggest reasons that so many reach out to or post our fitness goals and such on social mediums is for the accountability. Group fitness is another great example of the power of social support and pressure, and personal trainer illustrates the power of expertise as well as investment in keeping you accountable. When you have a class, are meeting friends, know that you are getting expert advice, or have invested monetarily in something… you are more likely to show up and to do the work, amiright?

Yes, I am always right. Alex says so and he is a doctor. So there. #itsscience

For those that need that extra motivation to get to the gym, to go outside for a walk, to get out of freaking bed, to do their strength training (RUNNERS), ACTIVEx might be the answer to your prayers. Post a goal, post your struggles, get support and feedback and get the encouragement to get yourself back at it!

Healthy living is so much a habit around here up until about six months ago I would’ve insisted this was nice for others but not me.
I will spare you the rant and the rambles but I’ve been reminded we all can use support and accountability <3

Sounds like another great network of support! Although my family is supportive of my fitness “stuff” (races, social media, virtual friends, blogging, etc.), they often roll their eyes when I “have to get a blog finished & posted” or feel like running “just a couple of miles” (even though my angry hammy is still having an attitude).

I’d like to win, I register for a lot of races and it would be neat to save some money on those and on gear. As far as accountability goes, I have a ton of training partners and a running club and we all keep each other on our toes with goals.

They say you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. And if those people don’t work out, you’ll likely end up relapsing into a couch potato. That’s why I love platforms like this, where you can get that fitness support that you need!

I love using the Nike+ training app for the reason you stated, they show you how to do the moves and I can filter them by time or the type of weights I have. I love the idea of this app with its fitness community! It’s also probably cheaper than a coach (although of course it’s not as good)

Finding support like this is great but it’s also so helpful to be able to keep track of mileage/workouts and stuff. I joined Daily Mile in 2010 and I’m still friends with a group of people on there, which transferred over to Facebook, which keeps us connected through all faucets of life, not just running. It’s so good to get involved!

Wow, this sounds like the Facebook of my dreams! I don’t take many group fitness classes, except for a regular spin class twice a week. The other regulars in the class have become such a close group of friends to me, and we all hold each other accountable. At times when I’m tired, and lagging, a friend from a row behind me usually yells, “Come on Kayla! Let’s go!” and that definitely helps 🙂 Plus, on days where I don’t really feel like going, I tell myself I’ll be happy once I get there and see my buddies, and I always am! 🙂

I work strange hours and with my overtime long days. I’ve never been a joiner and the thought of joining a gym or even one of the local running groups is very intimidating. It would be nice to have encouragement on my schedule. Penny the cat tries, but since she’d rather have me home on the couch her encouragement lacks sincerity. 🙂
