Emmie Friday Faves Friday Five Lyfe Parenting

Chicago Winter Initiation (42 Weeks + Friday Catch Up 11/16)

Emmie is officially a Chicago winter baby! She got her Chicago stamp this week with her new outfit and our Thursday weather! I’ll tell you about it in the Friday Catch Up.

Did you see the Weekend Catch Up? I got my dance on!

Friday Catch Up 11/16

1). Ok, can we talk about Emmie’s be-yond adorable snowsuit??

It is The North Face and 550 fill down, aka toasty warm for the kiddo. It means that I don’t have to constantly be freaking out that she is freezing. So we now can go out in just about any weather, or at least any temperature that I myself would go out in.

If you are wondering what I have her in, she is in a long sleeve shirt/bodysuit, hoodie, fleece leggings (if it is really cold, regular if it is above 25ish deg), socks, fleece booties, then her snowsuit. If it is super cold (like below 20*), I will add the foot muff (the stroller sleeping bag), and if it is that temp or below or just super windy, I will also add the wind/weather cover.

I also have gloves and a hat for her, and she has her barn jacket (layered over her hoodie/longsleeve/legging/sock/shoe outfit) for wearing with her footmuff when it is 35+, and I have blankets for her above 45 and a lighter jacket (or sans hoodie).

So, yeah, it is a process. It took me 10 minutes to decide what to put her in for our walk with Ridley (who was in her blanket) before Stroller Strides on Wednesday.

2) Emmie also got another Chicago Winter initiation: her first run in the snow!

I really wish I had gotten a picture of it, but it was wet snow (it was a little above freezing) and I have enough phone troubles (seriously, the screen is now cracked so I’ve ordered 3 different cases to try to hold it together).

We didn’t need the footmuff, just the snowsuit and wind/weather cover, and I’m so glad that I had it there because it was coming down (I really wished I had worn a cap, not a beanie, because there were times when I couldn’t see)! We ended up having a great run, though, and I felt #likeaboss

3) Emmie classes this week were fun and new. We went to a new to us class, Gym Babies at NY Kids Club, a new kids place that opened a few months ago. It is a gorgeous facility, and the class was awesome. Emmie was a little shy, but she was also tired (we had been running around the city all morning), so I would love to go back when she is more rested.

Tuesday, we went to the Music for Crawlers class at Bubbles Academy, and Emmie had a really great time there. I have been more impressed with the Babies music class and the core development classes, but I love Miss Kim, and Emmie still got a lot out of it.

We stayed after Stroller Strides on Wednesday to play with our friends and then grab lunch, and although I had registered for Musical Magic on Thursday, I decided that I wanted to prioritize a crib nap for her instead.

Today, I might go to Musical Magic (they have the class again today) or Strides, or we might lay low again. We are going to Zoolights with Ali and Ryan and Justin tonight, so I want her rested!

4) I’ve been a little sparse on Instagram lately, and I think I am going through a crisis of conscience with regards to my presence on social media. I had started to think about my presence, or, more accurately, Emmie’s presence, on the interwebs long term. I will go into bits and pieces of it over time, but what I am feeling this week is a hesitation when it comes to Instagram because I am not sure what to share anymore.

I’ve always been a “come as you are” person in my approach to IG and this blog. But now, IG is so polished, algorithm driven, and monetized that I feel… I don’t know. I started the Lemmer Zoo account to post pics of my fam, but then I wanted to share on Suzlyfe as well, and then Suzlyfe became the “best of” Emmie pics, and now, I feel like my best of pics can match up. Or I have a week where I’m not taking tons of pictures, and then I post something else and it gets no traction. So I’ll post a pic of Em and me, and it either goes really well, or not. Which then stings, even though I didn’t post it for those reasons. And then I feel guilty for thinking that.

I talk about it a little bit more here. I’m going to leave it at that for now.

5) Tonight is going to be super fun (Zoolights preview + dinner with Emmie’s bestie and our friends). Then Alex works this weekend but should be off for dinner, then it is Thanksgiving week!

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to go get caught up on trash TV.

Any snow in your neck of the woods? What was your initiation to your current locale?

We got a few inches of snow yesterday and no one here was ready! It’s actually still snowing/raining right now and it’s a little gross.

Love Emmie’s big snowsuit! No way to Chiberia cold will bother her

We got snow last night. I ran out to Target yesterday to get my toddler some snow boots, his winter coat is ordered but not here, and I totally forgot about snow pants. I am not living up to my Buffalo roots!

I understand that posting pics of your kiddo is a really tough decision. I very rarely do it, but absolutely love that others do. I like seeing those cute faces!

She’s so cute in her snow suit!!!!
I started my personal account where I post pictures of my family (we’ll my kids because my husband HATES photos) and it’s private. I try to keep my girls off my IG but every so often they make the cut. It’s a choice I made a few years ago. I still love IG the best of all the social media sites.

I’ll be honest, I really don’t follow instagram unless it’s yours, and then not always……not because I’m not interested, but because I’m trying to wean myself from constantly looking at social media.
    BTW the snowsuit is wonderful!!
Im careful only to put scenery, dogs, horses and some emmie pictures on Facebook

Recently, the attacks on social media have been so ugly that I don’t want to put myself out there, and I’ve stopped following friends who are very political and outspoken.
Maybe that trite of me, but it’s true.

I’ll tell you what stopped me in my tracks—-
last weekend, I went on a memorial trail ride as part of a celebration for the life of a great man and equestrian. We were out going through and up and down hills in the back of an arroyo. The woman behind me spent a good hour of the two hour ride texting on her phone.
The don’t text and drive should include don’t text and ride. Twice she ran her horse smack into me……
Do I’m backing away from so much social media so I can enjoy the world through my own eyes, not always someone else’s.
Is that rude? I’m sad if it is.
    But the snowsuit is precious!

Susie! I just CAN’T get over the cuteness of that snow suit. OH my gosh, cold weather babies are so snuggle-able hahah — and Instagram is a strange place. I would say post what you want to post, because it’s your page! You do you! 🙂 Also, I’m so impressed with all the baby activities you guys do each week. hahaha we didn’t do a single one … I need to get on that! Happy Friday, my friend!

Such a nice snowsuit! I just ordered one for Aubrey and some winter boots too! I even got myself a huge and warm winter jacket because I’ve been freezing the past 3 winters with my lame jacket! Game changer!
It snowed here yesterday for the first time this year. I think we got like 3-5 inches and a bunch of freezing rain on top. I’m not a fan of winter, so I’m trying to get mentally prepared for being inside more and being cold.

Oh yes we’ve had snow. And incredibly cold temperatures. It seems like it’s always the coldest day when it’s the Santa Claus parade. We took Squish to that this evening and despite the cold, had a blast. It’s awesome to see her take everything in and “get” things more this year. Love Emmie’s snowsuit, she looks so cozy!
