Spring is springing, and Suz likes it. I hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend! I want to rewind a little bit to Thursday, when I feel like my scattered brain started to settle down. The new weather and feeling like I have a bit of breathing room in my schedule (even if I automatically fill it up) means more lunches with my favorite people.
This girl being one of them! Erin and I met up and went to XOCO for lunch on Thursday. I got the seafood caldo (meal-in-a-bowl-soup) that was filled with onion, zucchini, potato, and the stars of the show, MASSIVE mussels, blue tiger shrimp, and catfish.
Good gravy, it was amazing! Erin got the carnitas chicharron torta special, and girlfriend taught that thing a lesson. Also, I am amazed that she didn’t end up wearing any of it! That was one messy sandwich. We kept our lunch to a mere hour this time (as opposed to the 2 hour love fest at Seasons 52 last time) as she had to go be important, and I had to go pretend to work, lol. We are going to try to have a standing lunch date once a week, and I am so, so excited to know that I am going to have some girl time built into my schedule. But that wasn’t all the Erin fun this weekend, but we’ll get to that later 😀
Friday morning I used my recently reinstated ClassPass membership and took myself to Flywheel. It was so good to be back. It was hard–my legs are still getting the pep back in their step!–but I was still proud of myself for the effort and my ability to keep up. I was able to take the class that I did because I had a work meeting (another reason for feeling a bit lighter) at 10. That meeting is another reason for why I am feeling a bit lighter–talk of a new project that is actually might maybe going to to let me focus a bit more on the interests that I truly have, that made me so excited about my job in the beginning. More details to come, but it was a meeting that gave me a bit of a confidence boost as well–like oh, I really do know more than I gave myself credit for!
Also, first ballet #flatsfriday of the year. YAS.
Saturday was a lazy bones day for the most part. I did go to the grocery store, and as I was doing so (at 10 am) I remembered that not only was the river getting dyed green but that 894570294750243 people were descending upon the city to see it, get wasted, and watch basketball tournaments. Later on, around 4, when I was heading back from Gold Coast, I saw a girl who actually couldn’t hold herself up. Like, go back to college?
Why was I coming back from Gold Coast, you
didn’t ask? Because I was getting my butt and legs shamROCKED by Miss Erin for her graduation class! Girl worked us out! I jogged up there, as I had been asleep until about 30 minutes before I had to leave (I’m telling you, conked out), but my jog home was waaaaaay slower. I had a great time with the crew of Sweat Chicago, and Erin did a seriously fabulous job not only developing the workout but also running it. And the playlist was magical.
I was pretty proud of myself for keeping up as well as I did! My legs were a little tired from Flywheel the day before (having not pushed myself hard at pretty much anything for the past 2 weeks), I was asleep until I got there, and I haven’t done any targeted strength for legs beyond PT since before the marathon. I was also pretty proud that I got through most of the box jumps–>remember, I have ZERO vertical leap! The only modifications I had to make was a couple of rounds of step ups (so that I could finish strong with jumps) and then a round or two of squats during the wall balls. My arms were burning out before my legs there!
But if you start with goblet squats and end with hip thrusts and a 2 minute plank? I’m sold. She also brought these AMAZING vegan trail mix cookies that omg were amazing (check out her site for confirmation, but I believe they were from Oh She Glows?). This was a great workout, I loved the people there, and I can totally see myself going back. Now she just needs to get on the schedule so that I can use my ClassPass to come and get abused!
Alex and I went to a great dinner at Volare and we got there just in time, apparently. We knew that we would be SOL at any of the bars, but we were in luck with Italian. No pics, but we shared a great glass of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, minestrone soup, a house salad, their house bread, and I had the Grigliata mista (grilled mixed seafood (calamari, octopus, scallop, shrimp) marinated in balsamic) and Alex got a beef and caper stuffed house made ravioli with champagne cream sauce (which was fabulous). The table next to us got a veal parmigiana where the veal chop literally looked like a stingray on the plate it was so big!
We came home and hung out for a bit, but Alex was exhausted and went to bed at 8! I unfortunately had a horrible night of sleep but sleep some in the morning, then got out into the glorious sunshine for a slow run to get the lactic acid out of my legs (dudes, I was sore!). A chat with Caitlin, a walk in the beautiful afternoon with Alex, and an early dinner at D4 for their sweet potato fries and corned beef (appropriate–especially paired with a Guinness– and delicious) to watch Selection Sunday was just what I needed to finish out the weekend.
Let’s make this week rocking!
What were your 3 favorite parts of this weekend? What are you looking forward to this week?
Did you celebrate Pi Day or St. Paddy’s Day?
