Just what is the best part of being married? On Alex’s and my third wedding anniversary, I tell you the secret.
Thank you to Amanda for Thinking Out Loud Thursday!
Three years ago, I woke up, went for a run, took a shower, and headed to the salon to get my hair done. There, I met my 4 best friends and spent the next while cramming 30-odd bobby pins into my hair (to make it look natural, obviously), and then headed over to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. After our first look and other pictures, we headed down the aisle (to the intro to “Lazy Eye”), and we finally declared and confirmed what we (and everyone else) already knew: that we were a team. See pictures from the big day here
You know that you are set with the right person when, after being hugged by your friends right after the ceremony and taking a few more pics, you and he escape to have the passed apps just for yourself, and that you are both equally adamant that doing so happen!
Three years later, I think I have figured out the best part of being married.
The best part of being married is having someone who does the “dirty work” so that you don’t have to (like cleaning out the litter box).
The best part of being married is having someone who turns a blind eye to all of the stuff that you have left here, there, everywhere because you have a blog, you are a runner, you have a job, and you just don’t know where to put things.
The best part of being married is having someone who doesn’t make fun of you for falling asleep on the coach at old lady times.
Or make fun of you for drooling on him during said couch napping times.
The best part of being married is dreaming about a future with kids, kitties, and Corgis.
The best part of being married is having someone who will order the “devil” dish while you order the angel dish knowing full well that you are going to eat half of his with your fingers and without asking.
The best part of being married is having a taste tester, and being a taste tester.
The best part of being married is having someone who gets lost in the grocery store because he is so used to having you there with him. But who will try to do the shopping if you need him to when you can’t go.
The best part of being married is having someone who is proud of you, even when you aren’t so sure that you are (because you went to an Ivy League and now write a blog, work as a personal trainer, and coach runners. While he is a doctor).
The best part of being married is having someone who takes your mood swings and anxiety attacks in stride–to him, he is concerned and feels bad for you, not looking at you like he is sorry to have gotten involved.
The best part of being married is someone who can be insufferable when he gets drunk because all he wants to do is be righttherenexttoyou.
The best part of being married is being ok with that.
The best part of being married is dreaming about the future that lies ahead of you.
The best part of being married is knowing that regardless of what part, if any, of that future comes true, you will face the good and the bad times together.
The best part of being married is going to sleep in the crook of his arm.
The best part of being married is seeing him asleep with the cat.
The best part of being married is when he gives you a foot rub (or back rub, or leg rub).
The best part of being married is that he knows that half of that cereal? Is yours.
The best part of being married is that you both know that the other isn’t perfect.
But the best part of being married is knowing that you are perfect for each other. And that every night, when I go to sleep, I get another day of being married to you.
Life isn’t easy. Love doesn’t negate all imperfections. But when you are married to the right person for you, mountains become molehills that might cause you to change your pace but to never stop moving forward.
I love you, Alex. Thank you for 3 married years of me eating your food, falling asleep whenever is convenient for me, demanding attention, and having way too much stuff. Thank you for the hugs, the kisses, and the snuggles. On so many days, you have been what has kept me going. I am so proud of you, and I am so grateful that we found each other. Do you steal your significant other’s food?
What are you “guilty” of?
